Denver Religion
Places of worship are located throughout the metro Denver area for people of all faiths. A brief sample of the many Christian and non-Christian religious groups in the metro area are provided in this chapter. BaptistLocated in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, eastern Idaho and eastern Utah, the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains organization has 103 congregations and serves approximately 28,000 members. The organization assists churches, supports and organizes missions and stewardship, and promotes Christian education, church renewal and evangelism. Celebrations, seminars, missions and ministries are organized throughout the year.
The Colorado Baptist General Convention also serves the region and is made up of more than 300 Southern Baptist churches and missions from across the state of Colorado. Worship takes place in traditional church buildings, in homes, in the workplace, on ski slopes, in barns and other unique locations.
Colorado Southern Baptists support more than 5,000 missionaries in the United States, Canada, Guam and the Caribbean. Approximately 5,000 additional missions serve more than 150 nations throughout the world. Locally, the Colorado Baptist General Convention supports women's ministries, ethnic church planting, evangelism, church health, volunteer ministries and other causes. Affiliated with the Baptist General Conference, the Rocky Mountain Baptist Conference includes 51 members from Colorado, Wyoming and western Nebraska. All work together to promote church mobilization, multiplication and leadership. They hold several events throughout the year.
Catholic
Under the guidance of the Archdiocese of Denver, the region's Catholic school system serves nearly 15,000 students in its 37 elementary schools, two archdiocesan secondary schools, three private elementary schools and six private secondary schools. In addition to serving the northern area of Colorado, the archdiocese offers 155 parishes located throughout the metro Denver area.
The archdiocese offers a number of ministries for specific members of the church, including the Black Catholic Ministry, Hispanic Ministry, the Catholic Deaf Community, Marriage and Family Life, and the Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministry. Other social ministries address issues such as poverty, education, alcohol and substance abuse, and rural life. The archdiocese is affiliated with Catholic Relief Services, which works in more than 90 countries to foster international awareness and promote peace and justice.
The Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Denver provides services to people of all faiths who live exclusively in Colorado from metro Denver to northern Colorado and the western slope. Services include parenting classes, adult services, child care programs, counseling, disabled services, emergency assistance, employment services, English as a Second Language, foster care, HIV/AIDS ministry, housing, homelessness, immigration services, pregnancy counseling, senior services and youth services
