Denver Spectator Sports-Denver's Sports Teams

Why watch a game on television when you can see it live in America's top sports city that boasts seven major sports teams and three state-of-the-art stadiums?

Sporting News ranked Denver as one of the top seven best sports cities in the country in 2007. From football and baseball to lacrosse and soccer, the metro Denver area offers sports enthusiasts countless opportunities throughout the year to watch their favorite professional or collegiate team. In fact, more than 6 million fans attend sporting events each year in the metro area.

Recognizing that sporting events are a major economic engine, the Metro Denver Sports Commission was formed in 1991 to attract the world's top sporting events to metro Denver. Thanks to the efforts of the commission, Denver has hosted events such as the 2005 NCAA Final Four and the 2005 U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship. In addition, the city will host the 2007 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Western Regional Tournament and the 2008 NCAA Frozen Four Hockey Tournament.

Professional Sports Venues

Metro Denver is home to three of the second-newest sports venues in the nation. All three Denver sports venues were constructed in the past 10 years and are located in or near downtown Denver, revitalizing the Central Platte Valley and the Lower Downtown (LoDo) area into a vibrant entertainment and shopping district.

The new state-of-the-art Broomfield Event Center opened in November 2006. The Rocky Mountain Rage from the Central Hockey League and the Colorado 14ers from the NBA Development League began their inaugural seasons in late 2006 as the marquee tenants of the new venue.

Located on the south side of U.S. Highway 36 between 112th and 120th Streets, the new venue is a 180,000-square-foot, multi-purpose event center with 6,000 seats including 25 suites, 900 club seats, a sit-down restaurant, two themed bars and a separate basketball practice facility.

The Broomfield Event Center will host more than 130 events per year, including concerts, trade shows, rodeos and sporting events. The center is a major anchor for the 215-acre, multi use development known as Arista, which will also include retail, office and residential space. Read More
